Exciting Day!

I was surprised to find myself on the front page of etsy today! How exciting!

The treasury was really beautiful!

And, I thought I would share some pictures of my pumpkin.

This is a picture of autumn playing "dress up" she is wearing a shirt I was trying to photograph, a hair bow as a necklace, and a pair of my very old sunglasses. They were from the 90's ska resurgence when clear lenses were hot, or at least I thought they were :)

I dont know. There is something cute about faces smushed up against screens.

And THIS is extra special fancy. Autumn is trying to crawl in the cat door.

What else? well my roller derby team played a game against Assassination City this weekend and won by a pretty sizable margin, so that was fun. The reffing was pretty awful, but if the refs hadn't been there we would not have been able to sanction the bout. Other than that, I am BUSY BUSY BUSY--- and I am developing a new product. With some luck I will be able to offer a preview later this week.

Ok. I'll be back for my daily treasury this evening.

X0xo :)

Evolution of a Black Eye.

Hi guys!

On Friday Adam, Francis and I drove to Tucson for the dust devil roller derby tournament. When we stopped to get gas and ran into the bathroom I got a few funny looks that totally confused me.

Then I remembered that I have a black eye.

The only other time I remember having a black eye was when I broke my nose when I was four. Stupid highway underpasses and patent leather dress shoes.

I am completely fascinated by the daily changes in color and even shape. Here are a few new pictures:

This one is from Saturday. It turned VERY DARK PURPLE on my eyelid. It was actually a very beautiful color, deep and reddish, like a plum.

This one is from Sunday. Yes. I am wearing the same stinky shirt that I wore on Saturday. WE wore black jerseys for all three games this weekend. The color became a little yellowish in some areas and now it is dark underneath my eye, not just on the eyelid.

And this was today. We were headed home from Tucson which is most of the reason I look so grumpy.

Last but not least, here is an adorable picture of autumn and I that was taken at the venue between out two games on Sunday.

I am hoping there will be pictures available for the bouts tomorrow, and I will tell you more about the weekend very soon.

Xoxo

Great Weekend!

Roller Girl ACEO (available in my store AcrylicandSteel)

This weekend was awesome! I was really stressed out going into it, but everything went great! We won both of our games, one was close and the other one felt closer than the score indicated. Everyone who came got to play in both games which was important to me, though one girl was still disappointed with her playing time. The entire team was pleasant and worked together and I am so proud of everyone!

I missed Autumn and Adam while I was gone, but not as much as the last trip I took, so that was good. That was a trip to Denver and it was REALLY hard on me! I was still really happy to see them when I got home.

My good friend Francis went with us to help manage the team during the games, and he did well for his first time. It was also nice to have him around. Sunday we took the ferry from Bremmerton to Seattle and spent the day walking around downtown Seattle. That was really fun, the ferry was awesome and it was a beautiful day! Unfortunately things started shutting down sooner than I had hoped.

I have looked for pictures from this weekend and have not found any yet, but here are some awesome roller derby inspired items from etsy:

"Stay Down" panties from http://www.etsy.com/shop/hotacrossbuns , two derby girls from Ontario Canada.

Off for the weekend!

SO, I am headed to the Seattle area to play in a roller derby tournament this weekend. We will be, more specifically, in Bremerton, Wa. The tourney is hosted by the Slaughter County Roller Vixens. I am excited to play, but it is always very difficult to leave Autumn and Adam for a weekend. It is bittersweet for another reason though, it is our first travel game without our former Captain, Kamikaze Kim. I really thought she was an excellent captain for MOST of the time that she lead the Munecas Muertas and it was a sad day when she left duke city for almost everyone. It is also The first bout that Killer Queen and I will be captains. I am a little worried because our team has changed a lot and we are missing two of our top scoring jammers this weekend (Kamikaze Kim who moved to Seattle, and Muffin who will not be attending for personal reasons). I think that we have made some progress in some areas, and I also think that with better attendance at practice and positive attitudes we could really be an amazing team this season.

I am also afraid I will forget something important...

Friday Update

Hi!

It is Friday again, and I am so EXCITED for the upcoming weekend! My lovely daughter is turning 1 on Saturday! We are having a party, probably a fairly small party because it seems like no one is in town. I spent last night making 4 different types of cupcakes. We will have "funfetti" cupcakes, chocolate fudge cupcakes with chocolate frosting, yellow cupcakes with chocolate frosting and marble cupcakes. I also made 2 pans of chicken enchiladas and one pan of cheese enchiladas, a pan of rice and a pan of mac n cheese which are in the freezer until Saturday. We will also have black beans, fried popcorn chicken, brown sugar veggies, salad, guacamole, salsa, chips... and we will pick up some soda and beer tomorrow. Since we are a derby household it will probably be PBR.

Last weekend I ran my first munecas practice as co-captain/captain, and I would say it went really well. People seemed to feel like it was a good practice, and for the first time in a long time I was sore after practice, and I think that is mostly due to the awesome off skates things Muffin showed us.

WFTDA (woman's flat track derby association) nationals are this weekend. They will surely be on at autumns party and we will be watching games after practice on Sunday.

In other news... I have been itching for some AWESOME, unique, beautiful fabric. I have scoured etsy and the web, but I just am not sure what I want, and am still really spoiled from my time in LA. It is hard for me to spend a lot of money on fabric after being able to buy it wholesale in the fashion district.

Also, early next week I will be sharing a product review of some new prismacolor markers that I was lucky enough to get some samples of. I will also be featuring etsy stores next week that I bought autumn birthday gifts from.

Have a great weekend everyone :)

xoxo

It has been a little too long since my last post, I apologize!

I played a game in Portland a week ago and we lost by A LOT. After living there Portland had left a pretty awful taste in my mouth, but I had so much fun visiting and I loved playing the Rose City Rollers Wheels of Justice, even if they kicked our ass.

I actually was not ready to leave when it was time to go.

This past weekend Adam and I finally got a weekend *kind of* off of derby. I mean I helped with newbies on Friday, helped with newbies again on Saturday and did some counting of merch to get the website prepared to start selling it, and had travel team practice and a league meeting on Sunday, but- compared to being out of town playing bouts, it felt like having the weekend off of derby.

Obviously, I love it or I wouldn't do it, but I was so happy to get a few things done!

I finally tackled that art room- which is good, because I have lots of projects floating around in my head that I want to get started on. More on that, later. I will also put up some more pictures soon of the new and improved workspace!

We also finally started putting the art up. For some reason we are having more trouble deciding where to put things this time, even though we have a ton of wall space. I am not sure what to do about the paintings that are not hanging, maybe I should have a big etsy sale. Paintings get ruined when they are stored for too long.

Busy Weekend

We had quite a weekend around here! My mom came in to Albuquerque last Wednesday and my brother drove up this weekend from las cruses. Duke City Derby also had an art show go up at the Blackbird Buvette -all proceeds to benefit duke city derby. Between derby and family this weekend it felt like I was going nonstop! It was so much fun to spend time with my mom and my brothers.

I also decided that I could make it to the tucson game next weekend. We would save a little money if I would make these decision sooner- but this means that the next three weekends will all be devoted to roller derby. WE have a game with the Tucson Saddle Tramps next weekend, a "home" game in Taos the following weekend, and the weekend after that we play Portlands Wheels of Justice. I would really like to beat portland, but I know no matter what happens we will play our best in portland.

I would like to post some pictures of the art I donated to the art show, but blogger isn't letting me upload any pictures right now so I will have to try again later.

Derby Derby Derby...

Lots going on with derby right now. I think I will start with the most amusing little tidbit...

I had a "you know me so well" moment with Adam last Sunday. Because the weather was awesome, and league endurance was expected to be crowded- we had an outdoor skate. It was soooo much fun. Our coach, Speedbump, took us on an AWESOME trip through some of the bike paths in the Sellwood area of Portland. It was SO much fun. When I got back home, all scraped up, Adam was not surprised. "Did you try to jump over the train tracks?" he asked, before I had a chance to explain what happened. I HAD tried to jump the train tracks. How did he know?

I am bummed out because I can't skate much right now. Adams job is taking him out of town and so I am taking care of the baby Autumn during the week when I would otherwise be skating. It sucks. There was game last week and there is another tomorrow and i am a little burned out.

There IS one bout that I am REALLY ecited for this week... DUKE CITY DERBY is having THIER FIRST EVER bout at the Santa Ana Star Casino! If you did not know, we used to skate in Midnight Rodeo-pictured on the left- and it was really kind of a death trap. I mean, there were other problems, like that the demensions being wrong, and the stuff in the middle making it hard to see... but the really big problem was that it was very dangerous, and I am really surprised that there were not more injuries. It is a little sad. I mean, there is something really bad ass about playing rollerderby in a bar that is surrounded with obstacles that could possibly cause major damage, but it is nice that DCD will be playing in a legitimate venue, with regular track demensions. Plus as bad ass as it IS to play in a venue that seriously hardcore, no one really wants to get impailed on a death pole or see anyone else (even thier biggest rival) ripped open on a metal grate. It is also AWESOME because now DCD can invite other leagues to play them... or should I say us...?

Which brings us to my absolute favorite bit of derby news... At the end of next moth I am going to be back in burque and playing for DCD again!
