Feature Friday

Things I like: lace















































































I really like lace, whether it is "in" or "out" ... no matter what season it is... I love pretty feminine lace. All of the above items are clickable, and the shirt from http://www.etsy.com/shop/darkcycleclothing , who's work I really love and admire- even though I also make tee shirts- was in stilo lifestyle, the store I am doing consignment at, and it looks just as awesome, if not better in person. I actually would have bought one for myself if stilo had been stocking their womens shirts. I guess I can always get it directly from them, or ask Adam to buy it for me for Christmas.

So, I would like to clarify, I mentioned earlier that I have started running. I am not trying running because I need another type of exercize to do. I am very active and have no shortage of fun things to do that get my heart pounding or my muscles burning. Running has always been a hurdle of mine, and I want to overcome it. I know that running can cause damage to joints, especially if done incorrectly, and with the wrong footwear. I want to run. I mean, I dont WANT TO RUN, I hate running, but I want to overcome this sort of fear I have of running, and it is good for me.

The experiment I mentioned earlier this week turned out AWESOME. I will share picture soon.

Small Changes

I recently decided to purchase a showcase spot for Caustic Threads, which has made me take a long hard look at my store. If I am going to spend a little extra money advertising I really want to make sure I am presenting my product in a desirable way. Several people told me that they did not like my banner, it was too dark, boring, text gets lost. At first I felt a little sad but that was dumb. People were just trying to help me be successful. I also had several people tell me that they LIKED my avatar, but since I don't like aspects about it I decided to change that too. It looks too pixalated or something.

I still have a lot of work to do, I am trying to make the first image for all of my listings similar so that my store has a nice clean look. There are some Items that I cant do that with, and there will be more as I continue to add accessories from my other store, but I have a pretty good Idea of what I am going for. Unfortunately this means I have to re-take a lot of pictures. I am also working on new cards and a few custom projects.

I guess I know how I will be spending my long weekend...

Friday Update

Hi!


It is Friday again, and I am so EXCITED for the upcoming weekend! My lovely daughter is turning 1 on Saturday! We are having a party, probably a fairly small party because it seems like no one is in town. I spent last night making 4 different types of cupcakes. We will have "funfetti" cupcakes, chocolate fudge cupcakes with chocolate frosting, yellow cupcakes with chocolate frosting and marble cupcakes. I also made 2 pans of chicken enchiladas and one pan of cheese enchiladas, a pan of rice and a pan of mac n cheese which are in the freezer until Saturday. We will also have black beans, fried popcorn chicken, brown sugar veggies, salad, guacamole, salsa, chips... and we will pick up some soda and beer tomorrow. Since we are a derby household it will probably be PBR.




Last weekend I ran my first munecas practice as co-captain/captain, and I would say it went really well. People seemed to feel like it was a good practice, and for the first time in a long time I was sore after practice, and I think that is mostly due to the awesome off skates things Muffin showed us.




WFTDA (woman's flat track derby association) nationals are this weekend. They will surely be on at autumns party and we will be watching games after practice on Sunday.




In other news... I have been itching for some AWESOME, unique, beautiful fabric. I have scoured etsy and the web, but I just am not sure what I want, and am still really spoiled from my time in LA. It is hard for me to spend a lot of money on fabric after being able to buy it wholesale in the fashion district.




Also, early next week I will be sharing a product review of some new prismacolor markers that I was lucky enough to get some samples of. I will also be featuring etsy stores next week that I bought autumn birthday gifts from.

Planning a first....




Autumns first birthday is in about a month! I am planning a party but I have never done this before! I would love suggestions!

Also, I am interested in buying gifts and party supplies but just searching on etsy is like an abyss, so any suggestions there would be highly apreciated!

Also, she is a very big, TALL baby.

Oh! last night was exciting! She WALKED! She has taken a few steps here and there many times, but last night she walked about 12 feet! She was trying to chase a cat!

Is it Karma?


I was fortunate enough last night to get to spend the evening with my husband, which is rare for many derby girls. In fact I never would have become involved with my husband if he had not been affiliated with duke city derby- but that is a wonderful story suitable for an entry of its own.


Adam got online to pay a bill and there was a pending transaction for a Smart Savings Center for $29.95 er… wha??? So we looked it up. We came up with a website that touted remarkable savings when you spend a “low” monthly fee. That made my stomach turn because it sounded remarkably familiar. I worked for the A VERY LARGE Call center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico right before I moved to Portland. When I worked there we were required to offer almost all of our customers a savings program, either the LARGE COMPANIES home or escapes program. I am not sharing the name of the program, not because I want to protect the company, but rather because I signed a lot of paperwork when I started and I am willing to bet that one of the things that I agreed to was not to leak inside information. However, if you would like to see what their customers have to say about it, you can read all about it here. The difference, as far as I know, is that the customers were told about enrolling in the program. We had a very specific script that we had to read VERBATIM in order to receive credit for selling the program, and the large company TOLD US that if we did not follow the script with a proper acceptance from the customer that they would NOT be sent the program. This company was a truly excellent employer, so I hope that this was true. I think the program is terrible, and I wish the large company I worked for would discontinue their involvement with it.


SO how did Adam get signed up for this program??? He ordered a book from hotbooksale.com and was AUTOMATICALLY, and without authorization signed up for this program. We dug as far back as we could in his account history and he was being charged 14.95 monthly for this bogus (yes I totally just said bogus) program that he never signed up for. In addition, there was no notification that the charge had increased to $29.95. But here is the real kicker… ADAM NEVER EVEN GOT THE BOOK THAT HE HAD ORDERED! He was having a really hard time finding the book and was excited to get it at a great deal, but a few days after he ordered the book he received an e-mail that the order had been cancelled and the book was out of print. He eventually ordered the book on e-bay for almost $70.00 meaning between the exaggerated price he spent on e-bay and the disgusting charges that he incurred from this Smart Savings Center SCAM he spent well over $200.oo for a book that originally cost about $17.00. OMFG!

SO we get one evening together this week… and we spent it dealing with a scam.
